Rebound - Ray of Hope Summer Camp Enrichment Activity
Who are we serving?
For many of us, thoughts of childhood are filled with happy memories of meaningful relationships that have helped us become who we are today. Rebound exists to bring hope and healing to kids and families whose childhoods have been tainted by abuse, poverty and neglect. Ray of Hope Summer Program is a 6-week day camp for children ages 5-12 years who have experienced difficult life circumstances that may result in emotional or behavioral challenges. Offering fun and recreation, arts and crafts, field trips, small group time, and life-skills classes, Ray of Hope runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday, June 25th – Aug. 2nd.
Who is helping connect us to their needs?
At Rebound, kids and families get a second chance to experience things that many of us take for granted…like knowing they are loved and supported, like building trusting mentoring relationships with caring adults, like becoming accepted and productive members of a caring community.
Working in partnership with local agencies, area churches, local businesses and countless volunteers, Rebound brings hope and healing to the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual aspects of life. At Ray of Hope, Christian staff counselors develop mentoring relationships and minister with each child as they are taught the life skills necessary to understand, discuss, and cope with what is happening in their lives in positive ways, pointing them to Jesus whenever possible.
How are we serving?
Every day we plan different activities for the 80 children attending Ray of Hope. Everything from police dogs show and Fire Trucks presentation, to playing simple games such as sharks and minnows and kickball. A CTK small group team is invited to plan a group activity for one day that could be run
during the morning activity time for 4 sets of groups, numbering 15 – 20 children in each age group. The activity could be something like an obstacle course, age appropriate ball game, or if someone in your group has an interesting hobby that kids would enjoy learning about, this would also be a great idea - an activity to engage each of the 4 groups for 30 - 45 minutes. The style and activity specifics would be entirely up to your group, but it needs to be fun for both 5 year olds as well as 12 year olds
