Hosting Bellingham Food Bank Clients at CTK
Who are we serving?
Families who live within the Bellingham city limits and need some extra groceries.
Who is helping connect us to their needs?
Bellingham Food Bank works to make high quality and health food available to anyone who needs it. Their motto is “HUNGER IS UNACCEPTABLE” and they believe in serving people with respect and dignity. We have three distribution locations: downtown on Ellis by Bellingham High, Alderwood Elementary, and CTK Bellingham.
How are we serving?
Every Tuesday from about 4:45 to 5:30, about 50-60 families wait in the CTK commons until the food bank distribution is ready to open the doors into Base Camp. What an opportunity for us to host these guests, open the café with coffee, tea, and water. And offer folks a small snack while they wait. If your small group can send a couple folks ahead at 4:00 to make coffee and have at least a couple others arrive by 4:30 to set out the beverage service and bring snacks, then you’re ready for an hour of mingling, offering goodies, and introducing yourselves to folks who are waiting. You might look at the Tuesday before or after St. Patrick’s Day and grab some themed cups or other details at the dollar store? Or you could do something Easter bunny themed? Be creative but not over the top ☺
Who do you contact?
Have your group pick a Tuesday and a back-up Tuesday and then contact Melanie Danner, the Satellite Programs Coordinator, at (360) 676-0392 or firstname.lastname@example.org to figure out which works on their end. Then make your shopping list, pitch in some funds, and contact Wendy Powell at email@example.com or 733-1337 ext 212 to arrange the coffee part of things or if you need help in the process. Please share your project with us by using the hashtag #CTKserves on social media or email Wendy a few pictures!
